I am become Death - We Were Asleep

We cast ourselves into the stream on a tiny paper boat.
I promised you I’d never let the giants swallow us whole.
I saw you smile wide at me as I turned the sails towards the breeze.
We were not, we were not ever going back.
I dressed you up like a doll, I tied your golden hair.
I promised you I’d never let the nothing swallow us whole.
The angels danced upon the breeze; your body close to mine.
We were not, we were not, we were not going back.
But while we slept the ocean waves filled our tiny boat.
It soaked the decks and tore the hull and drug us down below.
And all the while we didn’t wake as the water filled our lungs.
We were not, we were not ever going home.
The morning sun shone through the trees, the water softly flowed.
But we were still fast asleep upon our paper boat.
I promised you I’d never let the giants swallow us whole.
I promised you I’d never let the nothing swallow us whole.
The angels danced upon the breeze; your body close to mine.
While we were still fast asleep upon our little paper boat.
